GS: Multi‑location inventory

Wanted to show inter-store transfer availability when the nearest store is out of stock. Support configured the transfer suggestion feature — customers see 'Out of stock here — available at Downtown, transfer available in 2 days'. It triggers a notification to our logistics team. Customers love having the option rather than just a dead end.

Stock trend data wasn't available in the widget but support exported our historical data so I could analyze it externally. The analysis showed clear weekend sellout patterns for three products. We adjusted our restocking schedule based on the data they provided.

Product variants needed per-location stock display. Support enabled variant-level stock — customers select a size and color, and the widget updates to show that specific variant's availability at each location. No more showing 50 units of a product when the specific size the customer wants has 2 left.

Our mobile app needed to pull from the same stock data as the website widget. Support provided the API endpoint and authentication setup. Our app developer integrated it in a day and now the app and website show identical stock information. Single source of truth across platforms.

Asked about in-widget item reservation. Support explained it's not a built-in feature but helped me integrate a notification system — customers click 'notify store' and the location receives an email to hold the item. Not a true reservation but it bridges the gap until we implement a full hold system.

Fine-tuned the coordinates for our mall-based stores. Support showed me the manual coordinate override that lets me pin each location to the exact store entrance within the mall, rather than the mall's general address. Customers get directions to the right entrance, not just the parking lot.

Location-specific pricing alongside stock levels isn't supported natively. Support explained the pricing model is handled by Shopify Markets, but they helped me add a note per location showing 'In-store price may vary'. Manages customer expectations without creating a pricing conflict.

Asked about flagging overstocked locations for a pickup promotion. Support configured a threshold alert that highlights locations with more than 50 units of a product. We used it to run a 'free shipping on pickup from these stores' promotion. The promotion cleared out overstock from two locations within a week.

VPN users were seeing stock for the VPN server location. Support acknowledged the IP accuracy issue with VPNs and added a banner suggesting 'Location might be inaccurate — choose your store manually' when a VPN is detected. Doesn't try to outsmart the VPN; it just gives the customer control.

Wanted to show stock freshness for our perishable goods. Support helped me set up a custom field that displays 'Restocked today' or 'Last restocked 3 days ago' per product per location. For fresh produce and baked goods, customers care about freshness as much as availability.

Widget was checking all 15 nearby locations, slowing the page. Support enabled the proximity limit — only the nearest 3 locations load initially, with a 'show more' option for the rest. Page load improved noticeably and customers rarely need more than 3 options anyway.

Accidentally deleted our busiest location. Support restored it from their Backup system within two hours. All stock configuration, custom messages, and traffic data came back. They also moved the delete action behind a confirmation dialog on our account. Crisis management was handled swiftly and preventively.
